John Wilkes Booth broke into where Lincoln was sitting, and shot him in the head. Booth jumped off the balcony onto the stage, which broke his leg. Then ran out the door to his horse and rode to where he was to meet his accomplices. Lewis Powell one of Booth's men was to kill Secretary of State, William H. Seward. He failed, Booth wanted to be famous and he knew killing Lincoln would get him there. Booth hid for 12 days. Once he was found Booth set the barn he was in on fire, no one knows if Booth pulled the trigger on himself, or if a guard shot him. Booth is in an unmarked grave at the Old Arsenal Penitentiary. 149
